Tammy Hepps – The Margarine Moonshiners from Minsk: A Journey Through Lesser Known Records
And Share Fair at 1pm
September 10, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm EDT
at American Legion Nonantum Post 440 (Hybrid Meeting*)
*Speaker will present in person. You may attend in person or on Zoom.
Program Description:
Join us on a rollicking genealogical journey tracing a group of relatives from Minsk to Pittsburgh who sold margarine as butter in defiance of one of the stranger laws ever passed. Tammy Hepps’ talk highlights some lesser-known historical and genealogical repositories whose records explain why this “crime” landed them all in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. These resources can help you better pursue the fascinating leads in your own tree when you think more broadly about what records are available.
This program will be recorded, so members will be able to view it on the Members-only Page through December 9, 2023.
