at Hebrew College

Steve MorseJoin us for a special double program with Steve Morse, the man who created the “One-Step” research tool that gives novice and experienced genealogists the key to Ellis Island and Castle Garden databases and much more.

Morning lecture at 11 AM
One-Step Webpages: A Potpourri of Genealogical Search Tools
Steve Morse initially created the “One-Step” website as an aid for finding passengers in the Ellis Island database.  He later expanded it to search the 1930 Census. He has continued to update the website, adding many more databases and programs to help us trace our ancestors.  He will describe the range of tools available and the highlights of each one.

Optional Buffet Lunch ($18) at 12:30 PM

Reservations have ended. If you have not signed up, you will need to go out for lunch into Newton Center, as Hebrew College does not allow outside food.

Afternoon lecture at 1:30 PM
Case Study: Genealogy of Renee Kaufman
Morse will show us how to use his One-Step Webpages and other websites in a fascinating case study.  He will demonstrate how a minimal amount of initial information can lead to an entire genealogy. He will also show how to obtain records in spite of name misspellings and how to avoid accepting wrong information.

Steve Morse received the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Outstanding Contribution Award from the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, the Award of Merit from the National Genealogical Society, the first-ever Excellence Award from the Association of Professional Genealogists, and two awards that he cannot pronounce from Polish genealogical societies for his One-Step innovations.

He is a computer professional with a doctorate in electrical engineering, best known as the architect of the Intel 8086 (the granddaddy of today’s Pentium processor) that sparked the PC revolution more than 35 years ago.

Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members. Refreshments will be served.
