Program description:
Israel has been the destination of many immigrants, most of whom settled, lived, and died there. Even if the stay was temporary, they left traces that are helpful in our genealogical research. This lecture will present an overview of the genealogical resources available, some more familiar and some less known, and will offer suggestions in how to use them. Rony will review some Ottoman era resources, some British Mandate resources, and also State of Israel resources.
Time permitting, Rony will discuss how to better communicate with your Israeli friends and relatives and may also discuss ethical dilemmas in Jewish genealogy research.
Speaker Bio:
Rony Golan teaches Legal Ethics and Law and Genealogy at Tel Aviv University. In addition to 40 years of legal practice, he is a professional genealogist and educator. He serves as an expert genealogist in Israeli courts of law and for the Israel Ministry of Justice, especially in complex cases, such as missing identity, fraud, and absentees. His pro-bono activity includes commemorating Israeli fallen soldiers.
