German SIG
March 9, 2025 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm EDT
– Zoom Meeting
This meeting will feature a presentation by Irene Stern Frielich titled “The Clues and Tools that Helped my Genealogy Research.” SIG members will receive the Zoom link with a reminder at least several hours before the meeting.
Irene started researching her German Jewish family in earnest in 2017 and found branches of her family she’d never heard about. As she prepared for her first roots trip to Europe in 2018, Irene identified many of her family’s German hometowns and retraced the locations her father travelled to as he escaped from Nazi Germany in 1938, and she visited the places where he lived underground in the Netherlands. During our meeting, Irene will share some of the clues and tools that helped her uncover her family story.
Irene is from Sharon, MA, and has been a JGSGB member for many years. Her memoir, Shattered Stars, Healing Hearts: Unraveling My Father’s Holocaust Survival Story, came out in October 2023. You can learn more about Irene at www.shatteredstars.org.
