Program Description:

What motivated our European ancestors to migrate elsewhere, especially to America? The only word of English they knew was “America.” So why did so many leave? What was the journey “really” like? And why when an ancestor arrived at Ellis Island did they settle in the mid-West? In this illustrated talk, Dr. Nicholas Evans seeks to answer these questions based on 25 years of researching Jewish migration to America.

Presenter Bio:

Dr Nicholas J Evans  is Senior Lecturer in diaspora history at the University of Hull, England. His academic research centers on voluntary and coerced migration around the Atlantic.  He applies his research to empower religious and ethnic minority communities both at home and abroad.
