Ellen Kowitt – Documenting Jewish Families or Communities Lost in the Holocaust by Bullets

November 12, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST

at Temple Emanuel (Watch Party*)

*Speaker will present on Zoom. You may attend in person or on Zoom.

Program Description:

“Holocaust by Bullets” describes the mass killings in Eastern Europe by the German Einsatzgruppen (the mobile killing units). Even English speakers can retrieve details about what happened to relatives or a community lost in the Holocaust by Bullets. Ellen Kowitt shares her family story at this pivotal time of rising antisemitism and continued genocide, as a generation of survivors and eyewitnesses is passing away. She reviews documentation from many sources, including “Yahad-In Unum” eyewitness videos, the USC Shoah Foundation and other recorded survivor testimonies, Yizkor books, Yad Vashem, USHMM, local community resources, and Russian Extraordinary Commission files.
