Program Description:
What can family recipes reveal about your ancestors’ places of origin and life in the shtetls of Eastern Europe? The foods our ancestors ate in their shtetls can offer clues to help you learn more about your family history. Amy’s presentation will focus on the Russian Pale and Galicia. She will include examples from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, and Moldova, based on her personal experiences there.
Shared “Potluck” Lunch Before Speaker
Luncheon at 12:15 PM
Speaker at 1:30 PM
Come in person with a dish representing your family’s traditional recipe to share with other members. Luncheon details below.
Or, come in person without a shared dish and sample others’ creations. You know there will be enough to go around in any Jewish recipe!
Or, join us on Zoom but miss the wonderful tastes and smells and connections of the in-person experience.

Luncheon details for all of you terrific cooks (and noshers) of Jewish food:
Many of us have favorite recipes passed down in our families, possibly adapted for the modern home kitchen, or something “Jewish-style” you have created. Make something and join the party! Bring a dish for a shared luncheon prior to this fun program discussing food from our Eastern European shtetls.
Please bring the dish at 12:15 pm to share our “potluck” lunch beginning at 12:30 pm. The speaker will present on Zoom at 1:30 pm.
If you plan to bring a dish, please email Sonia by September 18th at President@JGSGB.org to tell me what you’re bringing. I’d like to manage a list so we have a wide variety of main dishes, side dishes, salads, and sweets.
Perhaps you’ll trace the origin of your dish to your great grandmother’s shtetl kitchen!
Of course, members and guests are most welcome to come to enjoy the food and each other even if you don’t bring a dish.
Join us for this celebration of food!
